Foundational Stage (Ages 3–8 Years)
The Foundational Stage forms the first and most important phase of a child’s educational journey. It spans five years, including three years of preschool education (Pre-Nursery, LKG, and UKG) followed by Grades 1 and 2, and caters to children between the ages of 3 and 8 years. This stage aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), which emphasizes the importance of early childhood care and education in shaping a child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development.
At this stage, learning is designed to be play-based, activity-based, and experiential, allowing children to explore, discover, and learn naturally through hands-on experiences. Classrooms are vibrant learning environments where children engage in storytelling, art and craft, music, movement, games, and interactive activities that stimulate curiosity and creativity.
The primary focus of the Foundational Stage is to build strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills (FLN). Children gradually develop the ability to listen, speak, read, and write, while also learning basic mathematical concepts through fun and meaningful activities.
Along with academic readiness, equal importance is given to holistic development. The program nurtures:
1.Language development and communication skills
2.Social interaction and teamwork
3.Emotional well-being and confidence
4.Creative expression and imagination
5.Physical growth and motor skill development
Through a balanced approach that integrates learning with play, the Foundational Stage helps children develop a love for learning, build positive habits, and establish a strong academic and personal foundation for the years ahead.
